Metropolitan Washington Debbi Hurd Baptist Scholarship Program

The Metro Washington Bankers Group has established a $3,000 non-recurring scholarship in memory of Debbi Hurd Baptist for racial minority professionals from the Washington, DC metropolitan statistical area who are pursuing a graduate degree in the field of community and economic development with an emphasis in finance. Recipient must attend a college or university located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Recipients will have the opportunity to engage in an optional 3- month internship program with a financial institution located in the District of Columbia.

About Debbie Hurd Baptist

Student Eligibility & Application Process:

1. Graduate student attending an eligible metropolitan Washington, D.C. institution.

2. Graduate student must be in graduate program which must has as its focus, community and economic development with an emphasis in finance.

3. Limited to racial minority professionals.

4. Cumulative GPA 2.5.

5. Graduate students must have completed one year of their program.

6. Must complete the scholarship application and required essay and submit both to your financial aid office. (Your Director of Financial Aid MUST certify your application.)

7. Must submit two letters of recommendation from an academic counselor and/or professor with application and essay to your financial aid office.

8. Must submit undergraduate transcript.

Student Essay Guidelines

Please type a brief essay on a separate sheet explaining why you feel you would be a good candidate for this scholarship. Describe your educational and career goals, jobs held while in college, volunteer or community service performed, and any special circumstances that the Scholarship Committee should be aware of in making a selection.

Timetable

The Director of Financial Aid can certify only ONE (1) eligible candidate and MUST submit the completed scholarship application by March 31, 2005 to Jacqueline Daughtry-Miller, Metro Washington Bankers Group, c/o Independence Federal Savings Bank, 7901 Eastern Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20910-4830.

The scholarship check will be made co-payable to the student recipient and the institution and will be issued 30 days prior to the start of the Fall 2005 semester.
